DANVILLE — In part two of our look at Pennsylvania’s measles outbreak, Geisinger doctors say they are seeing the consequences in patients. Infectious disease specialist Dr. Stanley Martin says children have been hospitalized at Geisinger this year with measles complications, with some requiring intensive care.
Dr. Martin says Pennsylvania has recorded 393 confirmed cases and two deaths this year. He says two doses of the MMR vaccine provide about 97 percent protection against measles.
Martin says vaccinated people who do contract measles generally have less severe illness and fewer serious complications. He encourages families with vaccination questions to speak with their doctors or pediatricians. More information is available at geisinger.org.
