HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s measles outbreak continues growing.
The PA Department of Health says there are now 379 cases of measles reported statewide. They say 70 people have been hospitalized, while about one-third of cases involve people under 18. Lancaster County continues leading Pennsylvania with 181 cases.
Mifflin County has 25, while Snyder County added a new case, bringing its total to 13. Northumberland County has seven cases; Perry County has four and Dauphin County has three. Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming and Union counties each have one case.
No measles-related deaths have been reported in Pennsylvania. The state says measles is very contagious, can cause serious health complications, especially in children younger than 5 years of age. Serious complications include pneumonia and encephalitis and can be fatal. The state says vaccination prevents measles spread.
