CASS TOWNSHIP —State Police say Trooper Michael Pahira was killed morning while conducting a commercial vehicle inspection along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.
George Bivens, Acting Commissioner of the state police said Trooper Pahira was a nearly 20-year veteran of the state police.
Police say Trooper Pahira was inspecting a tractor-trailer near Exit 119 when he was struck by another passing tractor-trailer. Officials say he was dragged for a distance and suffered severe injuries. Lifesaving efforts continued for more than an hour before he was pronounced dead.
33-year-old Michael Bon of Massachusetts was arraigned night in connection with the crash. Court filings show Bon faces charges including homicide by vehicle and related counts.
