HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania House Republicans are unveiling an 11-bill energy package they say would lower electric costs and strengthen grid reliability. The proposal comes as extreme heat has increased demand across the regional electric grid.
State House member David Rowe says the bills focus on building more energy, lowering costs, and preventing future brownouts or blackouts. The plan includes changes to environmental permitting, permit appeals, and creation of a DEP permit ombudsman.
The package also calls for eliminating the Gross Receipts Tax on electric utility service. Republicans say that could reduce electric bills by nearly 6%.
They also want to replace alternative energy standards with a reliability-focused standard.
