HARRISBURG — State Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver says the state senate approved a bipartisan bill to update financial reporting rules for charities. The bill is sponsored by Sen. Culver and a western PA democrat, state senator Nick Pisciottano.
Sen. Culver says Senate Bill 1183 would adjust audit and review requirements based on how much money charities receive each year. She says the goal is to protect donors without placing unnecessary burdens on nonprofits.
Under the bill, charities receiving $1 million or more need an independent audit. Smaller organizations would have more flexibility for reviews, compilations, or audits. Sen. Pisciottano says the thresholds have not been updated since 2017. The bill now goes to the House for consideration.
