SUNBURY — A Bucknell University team has tested a solar-electric boat on the Susquehanna River near Shikellamy State Park. Bucknell says recent electrical engineering graduate Brennah Kennedy and mechanical engineering professor Nate Siegel built the boat as a foundation for future student competition.
The project used a canoe with a solar-powered electric system designed through Kennedy’s independent study. Bucknell says the test on May 18 showed the prototype could support future upgrades.
The university says future students may redesign and race a similar boat in collegiate solar-electric competitions. Siegel says Bucknell could be ready to compete by 2027.
