LOCUST TOWNSHIP — Two more area farms are being protected from future residential or commercial development through Pennsylvania’s Farmland Preservation Program.
He says the state program buys development rights from willing landowners and has now protected more than 6,700 farms statewide. He says the latest local approvals include farms in Columbia and Schuylkill counties.
In Columbia County, a 35-acre farm in Locust Township owned by John and Suzanne Kay Brokenshire received $64,700 in state funding. In Schuylkill County, an 18-acre crop farm in Eldred Township owned by Glenn Bensinger, Joan Conrad, Carol Herb, and Brenda Knorr was preserved with $43,000.
