MILTON — A partial structural collapse at a former church building closed part of Route 405 in Milton Saturday afternoon.
Milton firefighters say crews responded to North Arch Street between Broadway and Walnut Street after reports of a collapse involving a churches bell tower. Their social media page shows photos of bricks scattered across an alley. Close up shots of the church bell tower show a crumbling section of bricks on one side of the structure.
Fire officials say drone footage from the New Berlin Fire Department helped engineers and codes officials assess damage to the structure. Authorities determined Route 405 needs to remain closed until the area is stabilized.
PennDOT says a detour is posted using Broadway, Route 147, Interstate 180, and Susquehanna Trail. Motorists are urged to slow down and expect delays in the area.
