HARRISBURG — Several farms in Northumberland and Schuylkill County are being protected from future development. The state Department of Agriculture says the program supports farm families and strengthens local food production.
In Northumberland County, $400,000 will preserve a 381-acre farm in West Chillisquaque Township. Officials say the funding keeps the Robert Pardoe Jr. farm will stay in agricultural use for future generations.
Meantime, additional preservation efforts are underway in Schuylkill County. The state says more than $225,000 will protect two farms in Union and South Manheim townships. The properties are owned by the Hetherington Trust and Jared and Nicole Manbeck.
