DANVILLE — Sleep struggles for women over 50 may have more to do with hormones than habits. Neurologist and sleep medicine specialist Anne-Marie Morse of Geisinger says it is surprisingly common, “Perimenopausal changes, including shifts in estrogen and progesterone, can disrupt normal sleep cycles and trigger issues like hot flashes or even sleep apnea.”
Dr. Morse adds simple steps can help, including keeping a consistent bedtime, limiting caffeine late in the day, keeping bedrooms cool, and avoiding screens before bed. She also recommends talking with a doctor if sleep problems persist, as underlying conditions may need treatment.
