WASHINGTON — A major housing bill aimed at increasing supply and lowering costs has passed the US Senate. US Senator Dave McCormick says Pennsylvania faces a shortage of about 100,000 homes.
Sen. McCormick says more than half of Pennsylvania’s housing stock is over 50 years old. He says home prices across the Commonwealth have risen more than 75 percent since 2020.
The bill is called the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. The Republican senator says the measure would increase housing supply, reduce regulatory barriers, and expand access to homeownership.
Provisions include programs supporting first-time homebuyers, low- and moderate-income homeowners, and disabled veterans. The bill also allows Community Development Block Grant funds to help build new affordable housing.
