HARRISBURG — The state Fish and Boat Commission is considering increasing the minimum legal trout size to better protect wild brook trout. Officials say raising the limit from 7 inches to 9 inches would protect nearly 99% of wild brook trout in waters under general trout regulations.
Agency spokesman Mike Parker says most wild adult brook trout measure between 4 and 8 inches, making them vulnerable under current rules. Biologists say larger brook trout are especially important for successful spawning and long-term stream health. The commission expects to propose the change at its April meeting.
