MOUNT CARMEL — In Mount Carmel, fire crews remained on South Poplar Street most of the day after morning inferno. The blaze damaged eight homes and displaced about two dozen people.
Fire officials say a propane tank explosion inside one of the properties triggered the massive row-home fire. The American Red Cross says volunteers are helping 23 displaced residents, including 15 adults and eight children.
Officials say everyone escaped the flames safely, even as heavy fire spread quickly through connected residences. Local responders say three firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
