MIFFLINBURG — AP is reporting… went on the auction block last week as buyers packed the Buffalo Valley Produce Auction for its annual holiday sale. Organizers say the two-day event featured about 50,000 trees plus enough wreaths, crafts, and greenery to fill a hangar. Trade groups say real-tree demand continues despite long-term competition from artificial trees, driven mostly by people wanting the fresh scent of a live tree.
Buyers from across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic stocked up for retail lots and garden centers. AP reports, many sought Fraser firs, which remain the most popular live tree. Auctioneers moved everything from wreaths and lights to winterberry and ornaments as bundled-up bidders braved chilly winds.
