WASHINGTON — US Senator John Fetterman joined seven Democrats and Republicans to advance a deal aimed at ending the 40-day government shutdown. The agreement, brokered by moderates including Senator Dave McCormick, excludes a guaranteed extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies.
The subsidies were a major point of contention among Democrats. Party leaders and several Pennsylvania House members sharply criticized the move. Sen. Fetterman says the shutdown was a “failure” and apologized to all of those negatively impacted by the shutdown including SNAP recipients, federal workers, and air travelers.
