LEWISBURG — The SEDA-Council of Governments says its Joint Rail Authority will become a fully independent entity on , 2026. The authority was created in 1983 to preserve regional freight service after Conrail abandoned several lines.
Officials say the JRA has grown from 80 to 200 miles of track, serving freight shippers across central Pennsylvania. SEDA-COG will no longer oversee operations but expects partnerships with local shippers to continue. The JRA, which supports more than 12,000 jobs, will keep focusing on rail infrastructure and economic development.
