WASHINGTONVILLE — Some Indian artifacts on display are headed back to Harrisburg.
About 30 Native American artifacts displayed for decades at Montour Preserve are being returned to the state. The Standard-Journal reports that the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission collected the items from the preserve’s visitor center.
MARC Director Bob Stoudt says the artifacts included arrowheads and stone tools. He says the state requested their return in compliance with the national law, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. He says MARC appreciated having the artifacts on display and will repurpose the exhibit space. He told the Standard Journal; one new display may focus on American eels.
