DANVILLE — Three area volunteer fire departments will receive $10,000 each to purchase equipment and improve responder safety. The National Volunteer Fire Council says Valley Township, Kulpmont and New England Fire Company in Tamaqua are among seven Pennsylvania recipients.
The grants come through the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program. Organizers say 150 volunteer departments nationwide will share $1.5 million this year. Departments can use the money for protective equipment, rescue tools, communications gear and other needs. The council says the program helps volunteer departments facing limited equipment budgets.
