LEWISBURG — Two Bucknell University faculty members and five students will travel to South Korea September 5 through 13. The group will commemorate Marine Second Lieutenant George Henry Ramer, who died 75 years ago during the Korean War.
Ramer received the Medal of Honor posthumously for protecting wounded Marines during the Battle of the Punchbowl. He graduated from Lewisburg High School and Bucknell University before serving as a teacher and Marine officer.
The group will visit the Punchbowl Battlefield Memorial, United Nations Memorial Cemetery and major Korean museums. Students will share presentations and reflections with the community after returning to Lewisburg.
