The Daily Item reports about 100 Freeburg area residents attended a meeting Thursday evening regarding plans for a proposed solar project. Brookfield Renewable took questions from residents, Freeburg Borough Council and the Municipal Authority for about 90 minutes. The newspaper reports the plan is to construct two approved solar projects on 323 acres of land in Washington Township. Borough council says one of the projects will be near the Freeburg water treatment facility and public wells and they are asking for the company to commit financially to protecting the water supply. The Daily Item reports the company is hesitant to put up any money to protect the water supply based on speculation, claiming the solar project will pose no threat to the water supply.
