PHILADELPHIA — US Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson of Centre County was among the lawmakers taking part in a special America250 ceremony at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
Cong. Thompson chaired Thursday’s gathering inside Congress Hall, where members of House and Senate marked the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. The ceremony focused on Philadelphia’s role in the founding of the United States and the July 2, 1776, vote for independence.
Cong. Thompson said the origins of the republic trace back to Pennsylvania, and the pursuit of freedom began in Philadelphia. He also said Americans should be proud of the nation’s ongoing effort to keep perfecting democracy.
