FRACKVILLE — Fallen Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael Pahira Junior was brought home Thursday after he was killed in the line of duty in Schuylkill County. The News-Item reports citizens stood in silence as an ambulance carried his body under a large American flag in Frackville.
Trooper Pahira was struck Wednesday morning while inspecting a tractor-trailer along Interstate 81 near the Highridge Exit. Investigators say 33-year-old Michael Bon, of Massachusetts, drove onto the shoulder and struck Trooper Pahira’s vehicle, the truck being inspected, and Trooper Pahira.

The Massachusetts man involved in the fatal incident is facing criminal charges. Court records say 33-year-old Michael Bon is charged with homicide by vehicle and other counts.
There were valiant efforts at the scene by construction workers and volunteers to rescue Trooper Pahira, but he later died at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill. Bon was arraigned Wednesday night, and bail was set at $700,000.
