MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP — A new citizen group has formed in the Mount Carmel area to address data center development in Coal Region communities. C.R.A.N.E., or Coal Region Advocates for a NeighborhoodFirst Environment, say residents need more transparency, independent environmental review, and public input.
The group says an energy company recently purchased more than 1,500 acres of industrial-zoned coal land for a proposed hyperscale data center. Organizers say residents are concerned about noise, diesel generator testing, truck traffic, water use and electrical demand.
