UPPER AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP — Ham radio ‘Field Day’ is this weekend.
Amateur radio operators will show how they help communities stay connected when storms, disasters or outages knock normal communication systems offline. The Susquehanna Valley Amateur Radio Club says its volunteers can provide reliable emergency communications when they are needed most.
The club will take part in the national Field Day event and 28 at the overlook section of Shikellamy State Park. Club President James Collier says the event highlights the science, service and skill amateur radio operators offer.
Operators are licensed by the Federal Communications Commission and maintain their own equipment. The public is invited to meet local operators and learn more.
