SHAMOKIN TOWNSHIP — The News-Item reports first responders handled a sticky crash afternoon on Route 61 between Stonington and Paxinos. Fire officials say a Chevrolet Silverado hit the back of a John Deere farm tractor.
Officials say molasses spilled from the tractor’s right-rear wheel after the wheel came loose from the rim. The molasses is used by farmers to add ballast to equipment.
The syrup covered both lanes, a mailbox and the damaged Silverado. Firefighters used water from hoses to push the molasses off the road.
State police investigated, but no report was immediately released. No life-threatening injuries were reported.
