MILTON — A partially collapsed church bell tower in Milton remains a public safety concern and should be repaired or torn down. The Standard-Journal reports the tower at 18 North Arch Street has been deemed “in critical danger.”
Route 405 north, which is North Arch Street, has been closed between Broadway and Walnut Street since . Borough Manager Curt Zettlemoyer says the property owner has not been responsive to the problem.
Officials say a forensic structural engineer inspected the building after the borough obtained a search warrant. Code Enforcement Officer Alec Klinger says the rest of the building has only minor issues.
Zettlemoyer says the bell tower must be removed because it is not structurally safe. Borough officials say the issue is expected to go before a judge soon.
