HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania can now move ahead with a more than $700 million broadband expansion project after federal officials dropped concerns tied to state labor classifications. Spotlight PA reports the funding will help connect about 130,000 homes and businesses that still lack high-speed internet access, mostly in rural areas.
Most projects will use fiber-optic cable, though nearly one-quarter of locations may receive satellite internet under revised Trump administration guidelines. State officials now have six months to finalize contracts, and providers will have four years to complete service connections.
Spotlight PA says the state is also developing a streamlined permit process as officials work through another $400 million in remaining broadband funding.
