NORTHUMBERLAND — PennDOT has announced a major summer construction project involving the Priestley and Edison bridges and portions of Route 405 through Northumberland, Island Park, and Sunbury. The work will require a 30-day southbound detour beginning next month.
Local residents recently received postcards explaining the upcoming traffic changes and construction schedule. PennDOT says the project includes milling, repaving, base repairs, line painting, lighting upgrades, and bridge deck work on the Edison and Priestley bridges crossing the North Branch Susquehanna River.
Southbound traffic traveling from Northumberland into Sunbury will be detoured through Shamokin Dam before reconnecting with Route 405. Northbound traffic will remain open through the work zone during construction. Officials say overnight work is planned from 7pm to 6am Sunday nights through Friday mornings.
