WASHINGTONVILLE — Middle school students from four counties gathered at the Montour Preserve for the 2026 Susquehanna Valley Middle School Envirothon. The News-Item reports that about 165 students from 11 school districts participated in the hands-on environmental competition.
Students rotated through stations focused on forestry, wildlife, soil, land use, and aquatic ecology. Organizers say the event introduces students to environmental topics before high school competition begins.
The News-Item reports that a special discovery station also taught wildfire prevention and safe prescribed burning practices. Organizers say the event promotes environmental awareness and possible careers in conservation.
