HARRISBURG — The state is suing Character.AI, claiming chatbots on the platform illegally posed as licensed medical professionals in Pennsylvania. City & State reports investigators found one chatbot claiming to be a psychiatrist and offering medical-style advice.
The lawsuit says the chatbot discussed prescribing medication and even provided a fake Pennsylvania medical license number. State officials want Commonwealth Court to block the company from allowing chatbots to present themselves as licensed professionals.
Character.AI says its chatbots are obviously fictional and intended for information only. Attorney General Dave warns some young users are developing dangerous relationships with the AI chatbots.
