HARRISBURG — The state house approved legislation allowing separate championships for public and private schools. State house member Scott Conklin of Centre County says the current system puts public school athletes at a disadvantage.
Fellow lawmaker Jamie Flick of Lycoming and Union counties agreed, he says he hears concerns from families about fairness in competition. The proposal would allow the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association to create separate playoffs but not require it. The bill now heads to the state Senate.
