Geisinger Highlights Organ Donation Need During April Campaign
DANVILLE — Geisinger is marking National Donate Life Month by raising awareness about the need for organ donors. Health system officials say hospitals held flag-raising ceremonies during early April to honor donors and encourage registration.
Geisinger officials say more than 100,000 people nationwide are waiting for transplants, including over 6,000 in Pennsylvania. They say organ donation can provide lifesaving care and improve outcomes for patients.
Officials say staff, patients, and community members participated in events across multiple hospitals, including Danville, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Muncy, and Lewistown, to highlight the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation.
