HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania leaders say a new law expands mental health protections for first responders across the Commonwealth. Officials say Act 121 allows coverage for post-traumatic stress injuries tied to job-related trauma.
Lt. Governor Austin Davis says the law ensures mental health is treated like physical health. Bob Brooks, President of the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association, said for too long, many have carried the invisible weight of the job in silence.
Officials say benefits can last up to two years with a licensed diagnosis. Leaders say a proposed budget would expand protections during declared disasters. For help, call, or text 988 or visit 988lifeline.org.
