SUNBURY — Nearly 700 people have signed a petition opposing a request for financial information from commercial property owners. The News Item reports the request is tied to Northumberland County’s ongoing property reassessment.
The newspaper reports Ali Oley of Paxinos started the petition after property owners received letters from Tyler Technologies. The company demands that businesses disclose their income and expense data for the property assessment.
Oley says the requirement raises legal and privacy concerns for business owners and landlords. She argues property taxes should be based on real estate value, not business income. Officials say Tyler Technologies plans to issue a statement explaining the data request.
