HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced nearly $461 million for municipal road and bridge maintenance. Officials say the funding will support local projects across the Commonwealth.
PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll says the funding helps municipalities pay for snow removal, paving, and other maintenance. The money comes from state gas tax revenues through the liquid fuels program.
Officials say Pennsylvania has about 121,000 miles of public roads statewide. Local governments maintain roughly 78,000 miles and more than 6,600 bridges.
Transportation officials say the funding formula considers population and miles of locally owned roads. Drivers can check road conditions anytime at 511PA.com or by calling 5-1-1.
