POINT TOWNSHIP — Local leaders are reacting to plans to better prepare for future development, the DRIVE former Encina site in Point Township . A state grant will help DRIVE transform the Route 11 property into a pad-ready site for a future company or manufacturer.
The News Item reports…The work includes significant earthmoving to level the land and raise flood-prone areas so they can be built upon. DRIVE Executive Director Jennifer Wakeman told the newspaper; crews will also connect on-site wells to a water tank for fire suppression. She says the goal is to remove barriers for potential buyers. .
Point Township Supervisor Clayton Rowe told the News Item; any new employer would strengthen the township’s tax base. He says officials will ensure projects reflect community values and follow proper review. Northumberland County Commissioner Chair Sam Schiccatano says he hopes the improvements bring family-sustaining jobs.
