WASHINGTON — Shamokin and Coal Township will benefit from some federal funding.
US Congressman Dan Meuser says he secured $1.4 million in federal funding for wastewater upgrades in Shamokin and Coal Township. The funding was included in the fiscal year 2026 Transportation and HUD Appropriations Act.
Cong. Dan Meuser said the funding will support improvements at the Shamokin-Coal Township Joint Sewer Authority. Planned work includes replacing aging equipment in primary and secondary settling tanks and installing a headworks grit chamber.
Authority General Manager Paul Petrovich said the grant will help the plant meet DEP guidelines and keep sewer rates affordable. Meuser said the investment protects public health and water quality.
