NORTHUMBERLAND — The North Shore Railroad will host its 22nd annual Toys for Tots rides Saturday and Sunday morning. Organizers say the event now honors Larry Maynard, who started the tradition more than 20 years ago. North Shore lines are included Saturday and in Union County on Sunday.
Volunteers with the North American Railcar Operators Association will run small railcars, or ‘speeders,’ from Northumberland to Berwick collecting new toys along the tracks. Organizers say families can stand trackside and hand toys directly to the speeder operators supporting the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
Here is the tentative schedule:
Saturday, 8:30am depart North Shore Railroad in Northumberland, 9:15am arrive at Danville Middle School, 10am arrive in Rupert, 10:30am arrive in Bloomsburg and 11:45am arrive in Berwick.
Sunday they depart the Country View Farm facility in New Columbia at 9am. They arrive at White Deer Station at 9:15, West Milton 9:45, Lewisburg downtown at 12:15pm, and Winfield, at Union Township Fire Company at 1pm.
