At just under two-months, Brock Mason became extremely ill, went into shock and was transferred by LifeFlight to the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. Upon arrival at the JWCH, Brock was diagnosed with infantile fibrosarcoma, a very rare condition, and had to be rushed to the operating room where a chest mass was resected. Following removal of the chest mass, Brock underwent chemotherapy as ongoing treatment. Today, Brock is seen at the JWCH for regular check-ups and is a thriving two-year-old.
Jacob was born with Apert Syndrome, a craniofacial disorder that also involves webbing of the hands and feet. As a part of Apert Syndrome, Jacob has a cleft palate, craniosynostosis, and an asymmetric face. Jacob has undergone several corrective surgeries, both at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Jacob’s prognosis is good, he is doing very well, and he receives ongoing care at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.
At only 28-weeks, Connie Johnson gave birth to Jesse. Connie’s pregnancy had been complicated, when at 22 weeks, she suffered ruptured membranes and was immediately placed on antibiotics to protect her baby. Six weeks later, Jesse was delivered by cesarean section suffering from respiratory distress syndrome, and began a stay in the neonatal intensive care unit that would last until 6/22/98. Jesse received physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and respiratory therapy. Connie is an employee at Geisinger, and the neonatal staff took Jesse to her office as the “special guest” at her baby shower.
